Lipofilling involves using the patient's excess fat as an implant to achieve aesthetic correction (autograft). Lipostructure allows correction of large volumes without the risk of an inflammatory or allergic reaction, with the added certainty that the implant is "natural" and will definitely be accepted by the patient's body, which is not always the case with synthetic, injectable implants.
Lipofilling is recommended for treating furrows, folds and dents but it will not correct surface wrinkles, which will require other techniques. The procedure helps to restore volume to the cheekbones, treat deep wrinkles and restore the natural contours of the face. It is used to fill cheeks and hollow brows, nasolabial folds and eyebrows. It helps correct the effects of hollow liposuction and can also be used to perform minor breast enlargements.
The fat is taken under local anesthesia from the "donor" zone i.e. the belly, hips or thighs, using a small cannula. However, the zone selected must not be sensitive to weight fluctuations. The fat is then carefully centrifuged to remove impurities, then evenly injected into the desired location.
Convalesence:
Lipofilling is performed at the day clinic, meaning no extended stay in hospital is required. It is usually possible to resume normal activity immediately after the procedure.
The result:
The quality of the results and their sustainability over time depend entirely upon the practitioner and the manner in which the implant is prepared. Volume will usually decrease by about 30-60% over the subsequent months, however injections can be repeated until the cumulative effect achieves the optimal result.
